final chapter

Thanks to Irvin's tireless editorial artistry, the blur that had been last year's first draft of Song of the Untouchable has finally come into focus!  Untouchable diehards who attended the Boulder premiere of the director's cut noticed it immediately.  The captions, tighter scenes, dance club footage, not to mention that Shao-Lin Kung Fu sub plot - this movie now has it all.  Tomorrow's Denver premiere (free, 7:30 pm, Auraria Campus Tivoli Starz Theater 12, complimentary pizza) will give the local community - musicians, University staff, students, assorted martial artists - one last chance to experience the Song before Ampersand distributes it over the horizon and beyond.  Thanks for sharing these sights and sounds that can still inspire any of us to seek the uncharted!

sneak preview

It's been a little while since September's test screening during which the crew fielded an earful of suggestions, perspectives, and unbridled enthusiasm. Meanwhile, Irvin and the rest of the Chuck Fryberger Films wildlife have been making progress with a French distributer (Ampersand) and the beginnings of a site devoted to the film, www.songoftheuntouchable.com - where you can actually check out the new trailer!

bon voyage

Jet-lagged. Lost my bag. Was unable to penetrate the immense language barrier and cultural gulf while communicating with locals.

And I just arrived in Newark, New Jersey.

Tomorrow, the Chuck Fryberger team and I begin the first leg of the journey, from New York's JFK International Airport to Nedumbassery Airport in Cochin, Kerala. Father Paul Poovathingal, a Christian priest and long-time friend of our Dr. David (see prelude post, from 10/10/09), has engaged me to perform a solo violin recital at the Chetana Sangeet Natya Academy in nearby Thrissur.

They say music is the universal language.

We'll see how that goes.
